A free school meal for every child

In July 2012 Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, appointed Leon Restaurant co-founders John Vincent and Henry Dimbleby to review school food provision. The resulting School Food Plan aimed to create a new golden age for school dinners.

Our brief was to rebuild stakeholder consensus, raise awareness of the Plan among parents, teachers and children, and create enough momentum to help deliver the Plan’s most ambitious goal: free school meals for all primary school children. In October 2013, in the midst of deep government cuts, this is precisely what we achieved.
