It’s fitting that my first job in Whitehall was as a Foreign Office economist during the 2008-9 Financial Crisis, as many of the political and business trends unleashed then have come to define my career since.

As Special Advisor to the Brexit Secretary and leading on Brexit communications in Downing Street before that, I’ve seen in fine detail the battle to define the UK’s political, regulatory and economic future. And at a time of scarcity when the public is demanding to know that everyone is playing their part, I’ve advised corporate clients on how to demonstrate their wider contribution to society and led the government’s tax and Industrial Strategy communications at the Treasury and at No 10.
